In October, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new contract award for HealthInsight, the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) serving Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Utah, to assist Indian Health Service (IHS) hospitals across the United States in care improvement initiatives.
The contract will facilitate best health care practices and additional operational improvements for IHS federal government-operated hospitals participating in the Medicare program. This announcement marks the first time a single QIN-QIO has been contracted to cover an entire national service area.
During this three-year contract, HealthInsight will partner with IHS facilities across the nation to periodically improve the quality of care to patients they serve. CMS’ long-term goals are to support, build and redesign IHS hospital operating infrastructure in order to provide high-quality health care services to Medicare beneficiaries.
The contract will focus on leadership, staff development, data acquisition and analytics, clinical standards of care and quality of care related to the Medicare program. CMS expects that this work, while focused on Medicare beneficiaries, will result in a systemic change that will improve the overall standards of care in these facilities.
