Register: April Medication Safety LAN Event on Finding the Balance Between Medication Benefits and Burdens

The Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program will hold its next Medication Safety Learning and Action Network (LAN) Event on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. ET.

This free online training, titled, Finding the Balance Between Medication Benefits and Burdens: Implementing Appropriate and Safe Prescribing,” will discuss: 

  • Evaluating how deprescribing may decrease adverse events, such as falls
  • Outlining a process for educating prescribers and patients on safely discontinuing medications if burden outweighs benefit
  • Giving examples of how appropriate and safe prescribing can directly benefit patients who take multiple medications

The event will feature the Canadian Deprescribing Network addressing approaches to safe prescribing; a Quality Innovation Network-QIO’s (QIN-QIO’s)de-escalation algorithm for discontinuing medication when burdens outweigh the benefits; and a patient perspective on safe and effective medication management. The event also will share resources available to providers and patients. 

The Medication Safety LAN Event is open to all QIN-QIOs, providers, partners and beneficiaries.
