The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program’s Strategic Innovation Engine (SIE) has issued a Call for Innovative Practices to providers, insurance companies, government agencies, professional associations and other health care industry stakeholders.
Interested parties have until July 1, 2016 to submit their self-created or adapted innovative practices in one or more of the following areas:
- Managing Multiple Chronic Conditions
- Engaging Patients and Families as Active Members of the Care Team
- Coordinating Care Within and Across Settings
- Streamlining Patient Flow
- Integrating Behavioral Health into Care
An Expert Panel composed of eight to 10 subject matter experts will review the submissions based on their value — specifically, their degree of alignment with the six CMS Quality Strategy goals and the strength of their evidence, quality and results — as well as their ease of implementation. The SIE will combine approved innovative practices into topic-specific Quality Improvement Innovation Packages and disseminate them widely via various channels throughout the health care community. Organizations whose practices are selected will also benefit from unique networking opportunities and participation in poster sessions or presentations at the annual CMS Quality Conference.
