Driving Clinical Excellence Learning Series Part Four

Video call, meeting and planning with a business team in the boardroom for a virtual conference or workshop.

Part four of this learning series, produced by Comagine Health, provides an overview to The Model for Improvement and developing the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle with considerations for health equity. Several strategies for engaging frontline staff with quality improvement and the PDSA cycles were explored to build shared responsibility and achieve successful outcomes. Participants had the opportunity to learn about quality improvement “timeouts” and how these timeouts can reinvigorate the effectiveness of improvement efforts. Ideas for how to celebrate the small wins from improvement efforts will be discussed to reinforce staff engagement.

    • Describe how intentional quality improvement “timeouts” can reinvigorate the effectiveness of improvement efforts.
    • Identify 2-3 ways to celebrate small wins with your team.
  • Mastery Session 4A: In this session, users will:
    • Define the three types of measures (outcome, process, and balance)
    • Verbalize two ways to assess health equity in care using outcome, process, and balance measures
    • Identify at least one resource to support implementing a health equity lens into practice
  • Mastery Session 4B: In this session, users will:
    • Define two concrete actions to align behaviors, values, and intentions more effectively when working with residents
    • Define fundamentals of implicit bias and identify when, where, and why attitudes and stereotypes are most likely to “leak” into decision-making and resident care
    • Define the 4Ms of an Age-Friendly Health System and the impact on how resident care is provided
