These disparities can have a significant impact on health outcomes such as infection rates, hospitalizations, readmission rates, and mortality. Given the increasing diversity of the aging population in the United States, it is important that there is equity in the quality of care being provided in nursing homes, and an understanding of the diverse needs of the older adults that are being served.
Antipsychotic Medication Use Data Report
This data report, developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), demonstrates the progress of the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes as of October 2023. The official measure of the Partnership is the percentage of long-stay nursing home residents who are receiving an antipsychotic medication, excluding those residents diagnosed with schizophrenia, Huntington's Disease or Tourette’s Syndrome.
