What Success Looks Like: Fighting Antimicrobial Resistance

Event Details

Breaking the norm of treating every acute symptom with an antibiotic is huge. Find out what antibiotic resistance truly is and why it matters. Becky Evans, BS, RT (R) (CT) helps infection preventionists, nurses, pharmacists, health care providers and infectious disease professionals identify readily available resources to educate providers and community members to defeat this cascading routine. Participants will learn how to: 

  • Interpret lab results to justify antibiotic use
  • Trend current antibiotic usage in your community
  • Distinguish antibiotic resistances prevalent in your community per susceptibility reports
  • Modify antibiotic regimens per microbiology results to reduce further resistances
  • Effectively communicate resources to providers and community members

Becky Evans, BS, RT (R) (CT) is the Director of Radiology at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital-Avera in Scotland, South Dakota. Becky also oversees other areas in the facility as the quality coordinator, infection preventionist, and emergency preparedness coordinator. She serves as secretary-elect for the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Quality Board, as well as secretary for the Dakotah Plains Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. She is an active board member for the South-Central Plain’s Chapter of the South Dakota Healthcare Coalition, and is a member of the Local Emergency Preparedness Committee for Bon Homme County. 

Becky is also the treasurer for her local Philanthropic Educational Organization Chapter AE. Some of her favorite work responsibilities include coordinating and teaching community education such as hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation and stop-the-bleed for staff and students at the Scotland School District.
