“Living Fully with Dementia: WORDS MATTER”is a white paper released by the national Dementia Action Alliance to highlight the impact that words and phrases can have on the well-being and lived experience of people who have dementia. This paper provides guidance on preferred words/phrases, including the rationale for their use, as determined by a consensus of a number of people living with early-stage dementia. “WORDS MATTER” is intended to serve as a national “Call to Action” for all of us.
The Office on Aging is the focal point for APA activities pertaining to aging. Its overarching mission is to promote the application of psychological knowledge to issues affecting the health and well being of older adults.
The office provides consultation, information and referral on aging issues to APA entities, Psychologists, other professionals, Policymakers and the public.
The Geriatric Pain website was initially created to provide nurses and other staff working in long-term care environments and informal caregivers with access to free evidence-based pain assessment tools, pain management strategies, and resources to help identify and manage pain in older adults, including quality improvement processes focused on pain management. However, the site is applicable to other geriatric care settings and use by the interdisciplinary team.
