The Eastern US Quality Improvement Collaborative developed a syllabus for its ROADE Work series, a comprehensive and strategic approach in the opioid adverse drug event initiative. The opioid programming is concentrated into a “sprint,” using rapid-cycle change principles in order to see a large impact in a short amount of time.
The ROADE Work approach includes best practice and evidence on dosage and selection of opioids, alternatives to opioids, pain management, screening and monitoring, transitions of care, patient and family engagement and more. The program provides ground level, step-by-step implementation approaches for the ROADE work sprint to improve patient safety and reduce opioid-related adverse events.
The intended audiences include pharmacists, hospitalists and other physicians, nursing and behavioral health staff, Chief Nursing Officers, Chief Quality Officers and care transitions team members. More than 365 individuals are participating in the sprint work as of June 2022.
